Twelve crew recently took part in an intensive three-day casualty care course
Ensuring our crew are up-to-date with the latest casualty care training is essential for us to deliver the best care when tasked to an emergency by HM Coastguard. This training is delivered through an intensive three-day course which combines both theory and practical learning, culminating in scenario and paper based assessments.
The twelve participants, drawn from both boat and shore crew, ranging from trainees up to the coxswain, trained from Friday 8 – Sunday 10 November. Despite long hours and, at times, very sensitive subject matter, the group helped each other through and came out with two qualifications – the First Aid at Work and STCW Maritime Casualty Care certificates.
Dave Francis, Mundesley Lifeboat’s Coxswain, said: “Although I, and several of the others, had completed this course before, medical best-practice is ever-changing and so it’s imperative we are all, regardless of position, well versed in being able to deliver the best possible care. It was great to see the group work together through some very difficult scenarios and come out stronger. They were very long days but I think we would all say it was worth it.”
